Five-0 Books Me!

I suppose most people think it was a done deal, that I would get the job, but in this business there are no done deals anymore--at least not until they ARE done. I was interviewed by the new production designer and producer on the 3rd and offered the job on the 4th. I start work next week but as of now the "where" isn't known. They are currently working out of the same hotel as "Pirates" which is convenient for those who are staying in the hotel but not for much else. "Off the Map" has the lease on the film studio even though their show is more about remote jungles and not Hawaii--but ABC had the facility first with "LOST." so it looks like Season 1 will be housed in warehouses or empty buildings somewhere. Given the talent and resources behind this show, I'm sure wherever they wind up we'll make it work. The original 5-0 started without a facility as well.

Thinking about it, this would seem to be the biggest revival of a show in television history. Other shows have been revived certainly, but none that ran 12 seasons. I like to remind people that the original show premiered 42 years ago and ended 30 years ago so not to expect guys in coats and ties, big hair that doesn't move, or shoot-outs in Iolani Palace! I guess that means no disco shirts, no million dollar ransoms, or even an atomic bomb in a refrigerator being delivered to Aloha Tower. You will, however, learn more about Steve McGarrett and Danny Williams in the pilot than you learned in the 12 years of the original 5-0 and some of the best dialogue I've ever read in a television script. Of course the sets will be so wonderful, you may not notice what the actors are saying! (guess I'd better say lol in case anyone else reads this)

Aloha, Rick

Congratulations!

And thanks for the heads up about well written dialog. I was kind of wondering if this re-make/re-boot was going to be worth my time. (Or would it be more like the recent Knight Rider attempt -- simply awful.)

So thrilled about you getting the job! Loved Magnum and I know I'm gonna love Hawaii 5-0.
Loved what you said about the characters and the dialog. I totally agree. We are going to get to know them and that means a long run so we can look at your great sets.Congrats!

AWESOME! This is GREAT GREAT News, Rick! Congratulations - on THEM they hired you! And I am really curious about that series - the material I have seen has at least catched me already and I will find a way to tune in - otherwise I will have to wait until it's shown here. Because of it's popular predecessor, it may be picked up faster though.

By any means - this really feels like it has potential - for the viewer and the professional behind it. If you are allowed please keep us posted! I started some mouth-tomouth promotion about that teaser already and I can only say that the feedback is very good also.

Again: Congrats - thanks for the news. And now: have fun working in paradise!

Great news! Congratulations! I'm sure you're happy to be working again on a TV show. Hey, maybe you can encourage them to use the Anderson Estate a few times, as a salute to how many times the original H50 used it. Or, better yet, suggest a "cross-over" episode with "Blue Bloods," since they're both on CBS. Wouldn't that be something! Get Tom Selleck back to Hawaii and visiting the Anderson Estate. What THAT wouldn't do for potential dialogue!!

Well, this is good news! Can't wait to see all the new sets, the locales, the plots and actors and actresses in the new Five-0. Maybe you'll be able to alert us in advance of any meaningful sets to look for.

And, who knows.... Maybe a potential plot on the new show will have some crooks who need to replicate an office to fool somebody and it will have to resemble a certain suite that used to reside in a corner of the Iolani Palace somewhere on the second floor.

Congratulations to the new adventure! We hoped for long time to see a Magnum-Renewal, but realistically most of us knew it will not happen. Now Five-O lies even further in the past, so maybe there is a hope for Magnum feature yet!
